Cover of Overclock Zine #6

Brazilian cyberculture journal Overclock Zine #6, edited by Wandeclayt, will feature short stories from SF writer Melissa Dominic and myself.

The zine is in both English and Portuguese. The stories have been translated by SF author and translator Fabio Fernandes. (Thank you so much to Fabio for translating my story!)

Brazil, prepare for an ice storm from Scandinavia! ;)

My short story is a cold little cyberpunk/horror/crime tale titled Night in Arcadia.
And the zine cover fits very well, since there is a combat helicopter in the story.

It's set in New Kalmar Union, a future Scandinavian union. This is the same setting as in Necrosis, in the biopunk anthology Growing Dread, but much earlier in time.

You can read more about New Kalmar Union here.

I will talk more about the inspiration for Night in Arcadia once the story is published.

Stay tuned! :)

Decay story accepted!

David with the head of Goliath by Michelangelo Caravaggio (1609)

UPDATE:

and here it is: Still Life of Hypnos in Sein und Werden's wonderful Wunderkammer issue.

Some months ago I wrote a story about decay that was inspired by classical still lives and the films of Peter Greenaway. (He uses a lot of still lives in his work, as he trained as a painter.)

The decay story has now been accepted at a magical place where it will be part of a themed issue of the strange and unusual. :)

The editor liked the story because it reminded her of the works of the classical Dutch painters, Michelangelo Caravaggio (probably because of the character in the story) and the awesome photographer Joel-Peter Witkin.

This made me delighted as I have been fascinated by both Caravaggio’s fantastic works of art and his turbulent, problematic life. I love him.

I am delighted that someone has understood my strange story, which consists almost entirely of descriptions, and feel it has a tiny bit of Caravaggio in it! :)

The Crabs - excerpt from The Empty City

As soon as the cumbersome splint and elastic bandage was exchanged for less restricting buddy-taping of his broken fingers, Brandon started driving to get out of the apartment and away from the cabin fever.

Going back to the ice

On the way there in the boat I knew we’d see something spectacular, and was prepared.

When the glacier dropped large pieces of ice into the Arctic ocean and sent a wave at us, I screamed and screamed.

My parents had their backs to the glacier and missed everything.
